Hobby Shop Fun

So we headed out to Idaho Falls for a quick simple errand. Turns out we can't make just one stop. We made our way to a Hobby Town USA and found the toy we had been longing for (well for as long as we were in the store). These are our 1/36 scale remote control monster trucks, complete with shocks and everything. Kimi's is the green one, A.K.A. The High Roller (according to the sticker license plate) and Eldon's is the red Desert Truck A.K.A. #1. This just shows the childish fun we can still have.

More Creations

The following are pictures of Kimi and me making an entertainment center and our DVD racks. Kimi got her first opportunity to actually use her welding skills she learned a week prior. She also learned how to use a metal band-saw, hot wheel, and an assortment of grinders. This entertainment center is made of 16 gauge cold rolled steel tubing 1" square. We are ordering glass to go on top of each shelf which will match our coffee and side tables nicely (both are metal and glass).

The DVD rack is Kimi's creation, completely designed and built to her specifications. They are designed to be hung on the wall on either side of the TV. We have planned to build cabinet style doors for the front of each rack with glass in the center to keep the theme in our living room. There are 4 shelves and each shelf will hold 20+ DVDs.

The flower is just something I made for Kimi on Valentine's Day. It is made entirely of copper, which was heated and then quenched to create the reddish purple color.

Like Clockwork

Here's the latest on my clock project in my woodworking class. It is coming along quite nicely I think.

This is going to be the cove bottom that goes on bottom of the clock-it is upside down right now, letting the glue dry, it will also have a little flat piece covering that hole.

Making Progress

So both Donnas (Parry and Bell) have asked how my clock is coming and I promised both I would put some pictures up on the blog. So thanks to my wonderfully helpful husband who reminded me to, I am putting up pictures of my progress. Also, a picture of my first project, the coat rack, not yet stained because it is still sitting in the back of Eldon's truck...that's another project in and of itself.

So here are the beginning pieces of the frame, with a few of the first cuts and then, I messed everything up and started over. I didn't get pictures of every step, so the next ones are of the main frame all put together. I have the decorative backboard cut out and waiting to be put in and then we get working on all the fancy stuff like the pediment and the cove bottom and the door and so on. I will add more pictures as I take them but here's what I have so far.

Christmas in Washington

So as I was looking at Maddi and Eric's blog I realized I completely forgot to put up pictures from Christmas. So here, finally, is our first Christmas together.

Here we have our duvet cover on our mattress on top of our new bed that Henry and Donna made for us! Along with Loni and Jordan's new pillows which we thought looked better on our bed than theirs...and their bed skirt :)

The Gotfredson boys were so good this year, Santa left a special gift for them on the door step...They absolutely love her!

Back to school

Well we are back in school and have successfully survived the first two weeks. Eldon is busier than we expected since he picked up a TA job, and I'm having tons of fun with the Basic Woodworking class I was able to add this week because Eldon is close with the teacher. It's a real cool class. I'm working on a coat rack now and am almost done and will be starting on a clock next! It's kinda a big jump from a single blank of wood to doing joints and putting an oval in the middle of a piece of wood but I'm excited. Eldon is having fun with his IBC classes-business something, he and his group have to come up with a business and sell their goods/services on campus. He gets to go camping with his group here pretty soon to do some team building exercises and bonding. Other than the snow covered ground part, he's pretty excited about it. My econ class is okay-the topics are interesting but the class and how the material is presented is boring so weird mix. Other classes are pretty good, just trying not to freeze on my way to them. So all in all, we are doing pretty good, getting settled into our small but comfortable apartment, and doing homework and making the best of our last semester in Idaho.

It's just not Christmas without a tree and a few decorations. However, since our budget and apartment are both small and we are about to leave and move back to Idaho anyway, we decided to keep it small. Here are a few pictures of what we did to make it a bit more festive.
